Character: Lord Tharaman, One Hundredth Thar of the Snow Leopards, Lord of the Icesheets and Scourge of the Ice Trolls. Tharaman-Thar for short.
Canon: The Icemark Chronicles
Version: OU
Canon Point: Before the allies arrive (Cry of the Icemark)
Age: Unknown, but as he's the king of the snow leopards, and I'm fairly sure you can headcanon them having the same lifespan as humans, I'd say around 30-40ish?
Gender: Male
History: Wiki link for the first book.
Tharaman's personal history isn't well known. It can be assumed that his father was the Thar before him and he was raised to take over the position. Most of his life was probably fairly standard for a Snow Leopard who lived at the Hub of the World (most likely one of the poles). He probably ended up a soldier before becoming Thar, fighting against the Ice Trolls who try to take territory from the Snow Leopards every so often.
Personality: When it comes to being an over-sized cat, there's a surprising amount of variety in the personality of one Tharaman-Thar. Snow Leopards are not the pure wild animals their smaller cousins are.
The most obvious is that as the 'king' (known as the Thar), Tharaman is regal. He doesn't talk down to others as such, but he is one who knows his status and will not stand for others who think him some mere beast. But he is not harsh. Tharaman prides himself on being a fair ruler, hearing what he can of both sides of a story before passing judgement. He knows not to trust one person's assessment, not without the evidence to prove that they are right. He does what he can to do the best for his people, not necessarily for himself.
He values bravery and courage above all else. A show of force is nothing, even the most out-numbered unit can overcome and win in the right circumstance. Pleading and begging are the signs of weakness and desperation, not something that should be encouraged. Even when the future is at its darkest, it is the brave who will succeed, and those are the people Tharaman puts his trust in.
And that trust is not something easily broken! Loyalty to the end is what his friendship brings. Even when Thirrin tries to tell him to take his people home in the face of what seemed like inevitable defeat, he refused, preferring to stand and fight by his dear friend and ally's side. There is no honour in running away. Better to fight and to die than to wait all alone for death to come knocking at the door.
Tharaman also knows the value of not worrying and allowing fear to take over. Even in the middle of the greatest war, in those quiet times between battles he will do something else to let him take his mind from the fear. Whether it is simply eating, or perhaps planning the next battle, fear is something he refuses to allow take hold in his mind.
At the same time, there is always a time to simply be calm and play. In this world of wonders, where everything below the Icesheets is new and unknown to him and his kind, there will always be a moment where there is time to stop and marvel and how diverse and bizarre, yet beautiful, the world is. There will always be a warm fireplace to fall asleep in front of at the end of the day, and friends to celebrate the simple joy of being alive with.
Fears: Tharaman's greatest fears are somehow failing his people and his friends. He worries for their safety, and hates the idea that things may happen to them. He refuses to allow this fear to paralyse him, but it exists all the same.
To an extent, he is wary of the unknown, and how it can affect those he cares for. It's not a full fear, but if it seems something that may not be all it appears, or could be dangerous, he will be cautious.
Weaknesses: Being a force of brute strength is all well and good, but he has no way to harm those who stay at range, aside from running to close the distance. His friends are also easily used against him, though as a ruler he knows sometimes that he cannot save everyone, so it's not as great a weakness as it may be in others.
Mundane Strengths/Abilities: He is a snow leopard the size of a horse and has all the power that entails. A king he may be, but a fighter he remains, and Tharaman is strong and has a hefty amount of weight behind his blows. He fights without hesitation, without fear. In a fight, he is a whirlwind of claws and fangs.
He's also a master commander, understanding his people and how to best use their strengths, whether it is in open combat or ambush. Tharaman is a born leader, both in and out of combat. He knows when to take charge, and when to stop and listen. He isn't afraid to admit there are things he doesn't know, and will take the time to learn what he can, in the name of helping his people and his allies.
Tharaman also speaks the common language of the Icemark perfectly without any hint of animal in his voice. For simplicity's sake, I'll say it's English, but as it's a fictional world, it's unknown which language the Icemark would be related to.
Sensitivity/Magical Ability: Tharaman has no real magical ability. He knows it exists, thanks to the Land of the Ghosts, but otherwise cannot really sense anything.
